2 Children In Serious Condition After Multi-Vehicle Crash In Bradenton
BRADENTON FL - Florida Highway Patrol announced two children and four adults were hurt after being in a multi-vehicle crash on Cortez Road West Saturday afternoon.
The crash happened as a 70-year-old man from Bradenton was in a sport utility vehicle in the eastern left turn lane of Cortez Road West at the intersection with 37th Street West.
At the same time, a 29-year-old man from Bradenton was driving a sedan westbound on Cortez Road West on the inside lane approaching the intersection with 37th Street West with several passengers including a two-year-old girl, a seven-year-old girl, and a 40-year-old woman all from Bradenton. As the sedan approached an 82-year-old man from Bradenton was stopped in the left turn lane of southbound 37th Street West waiting for the red light.
At 4:55 PM the driver of the SUV in the left turn lane of Cortez attempted to turn left from eastbound Cortez onto southbound 37th Street West and drove directly into the path of the oncoming sedan with the young children.
With no time to avoid a crash the front of the car collided with the right side of the sport utility vehicle.
The force of the impact overturned the SUV and redirected the car causing it to crash into the van that was stopped at 37th Street West.
The SUV came to a stop overturned on the southbound lanes of 37th Street West.
The sedan came to a final stop within the intersection.
Both the two-year-old girl and the 7-year-old girl were seriously injured in the crash.
The 40-year-old woman from Bradenton and the 29-year-old driver of the car suffered minor injuries in the crash.
The driver of the sport-utility reported initiating the accident had minor injuries.
The driver of the van who was stopped at the light on 37th STreet West also suffered minor injuries.
