Miami Sports Bar Deck Collapse Highlights Need For Inspections and Enforcement Of Safety Codes
A packed, waterfront deck collapsed dumping the Shuckers Bar & Grill restaurant patrons into Biscayne Bay. More than 24 people were injured but luckily it seems no one was killed. While rescue divers were searching Biscayne Bay questions are already surfacing.
Something like this could just as easily happened in our area. Sarasota, Bradenton, St. Petersburg, Venice, Punta Gorda and Englewood all have great places to sit out side and enjoy a meal. Many of these restaurants have become icons in popular tourist areas, and are so popular that they have been operating at, or over stated capacity limits at a regular basis for years.
The dock collapse at Miami should be a sobering wake up call to local businesses as premises liability law suites will surely be filed by many of the patrons who went out for a good time but came home with a cast. While the cause of the accident is not yet known some possibilities include the deck had way too many people on it, or deck was in need of repairs and neglected. Either way the business will likely be help liable for the accident.
What ever the case owners of suncoast hot spots should be sure to have their buildings inspected to make sure nothing like that happens and brings costly unwanted attention
